The plan was to make it to the upper peninsula of Michigan when we left the family reunion. We only made it 25 miles and said what the heck, lets stay in Ashland, Wisconsin. The city has a beautiful campground rite on Lake Superior.

The view from our campsite was spectacular.

This is an iron ore dock in Ashland, They are tearing it down because it is no longer used. When I was a kid we used to watch iron ore freighters load here.

The dock is about 80 years old.

Finally made it to Michigan, the weather has been great.

Indian country

Falls on the Presque Isle River in Porcupine Mtn. wilderness state park.

We spent three days hiking and sightseeing in the park. The forest here was beautiful.

More of Porquepine Mtn. park.

Logging is a big deal in Michigan's U.P.

Tree hugger.

Lake of the clouds, Porcupine Mtn. state Park.

A little overcast but nice.

Music festival at Porcupine Mtn. ski hill. The festival was kind of a bust for us. We decided that we are not too much of fans of folk music. Some was good but, the people watching was great.

This was one of the better groups

Wonder what this guy was smokin.

Upper Peninsula hottie's dancing at the festival.

Our camp sight at the Porkies was great.

View from summit peak in Porcupine Mtn. State park.

Met another couple on our walk to summit peak, they took our picture.

The end of our day, it;s cocktail hour.

We are finally in an area where we have good internet connection, so I will post today and tomorrow. We are in Munising, Michigan today and move on to Sault St. Marie, Michigan this morning.
This is just after we got back from Chicago. We visited with friends Larry and Sue for a few days before moving on to family reunion in Grand View, Wisconsin.

This record bear is on display in Glidden,Wi

It,s hard to take pictures thru a  glass display case.

A nice veterans memorial painted on the side of the city hall in Glidden, Wi.

Arriving at Lake Namakagon Wi. You can see the lake in the distance. Notice the leaves turning already.

Belinda was able to snap a picture of bambi as we were driving by.

The weather has been beautiful, but we are worried about these signs of  fall. Time to head home soon.

Seems like every bar has a nice display like this. This is the Loon Saloon on Lake Namakagon.

With sister in law, Sherry. We really had a nice visit.

This is where I grew up until I was 15 when we moved from the farm and our parents bought a bar and restaurant. It don't look like there is much left of the old house.

Mason, Wisconsin, a mural of all of the important buildings of the past, painted on the fire hall.

Another view of the farmhouse where I was raised. I was in 4-H and got seedling trees, most of the pine that you see I planted.

Mason grade school, I was there thru 8th grade.

We had to go to Ashland for a little shopping before the family reunion, of course no trip is complete without stopping here for a couple of brewskis.

In the entrance to the South Shore brewery. Michael, this is the only time I will be Captain.

The sign says it all, just a few miles from home.
 D
Cousins and their kids, we a re getting smaller all the time.

Last week we took a drive in the car and left the motor home in Tomahawk Wi. We went to Oswego Illinois and then to Munster Indiana and then into Chicago. We were in Oswego Il. when we drove past this restaurant. Of course we had to stop for lunch. Chapala, Mexico is where we live.
The food was great and the people that run the restaurant are from Guadalajara.
We visited with Belinda's niece and her family as well as several friends. Munster Indiana is where we were living before retirement.

Inside of the Chapala restaurant in Oswego Illinois, with Belinda's niece Rose and her husband Paul.

Belinda's family.

This bar is where Belinda and Roy met 9 years ago. We visited with old friends.

You can see we were having fun.

Another day we met up with some of belinda's friends for wings. The wings at Cheers in Munster In. are the best.

Driving along lake shore drive in Chicago.

We went up to Chicago to visit Belinda's friend Sue's son. He lives on the 38th floor on Clark St. in Chicago. The view of the skyline in Chicago was spectacular.

Sue, Belinda, Steve and Sy.

Things look much better since the high rise public housing have been torn down. They would be in this picture.

Flowers like this are common around Chicago at this time of year.

One of the many parks that we could see from Steve's apartment.

After dinner in Chicago, one last drink.

Cigar shop on Wells in Chicago.

Chicago skyline at night in Chicago.

Looking down from the 38th floor.

By the rooftop pool.

Not the same as the view from the pool in El Parque where we live.
We are headed back to Wisconsin, and the next blog will most likely be from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
