ON OUR WAY TO BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK

This was our first night on the road after leaving McAllen Texas. We are in Del Rio TX.  across the highway from Amistad Reservoir . This was an OK , RV park, good for an overnight stay. We used our Passport America membership card and got  a very good price of $19.00 The electricity to run the air conditioners was appreciated.

A little part of the Amistad reservoir, you can see the water is way down.

Along the highway driving into Big Bend. Lots and lots of nothing.

Cactus outside of the visitor center at Big Bend.

We had  to pass through this tunnel to get to our RV spot in Big Bend NP.

The view from in front of our RV parked at Big Bend. When Belinda was doing the check in the attendant told her that the temperature in the shade was 112 degrees. I think he was correct. We are not sure that we have ever felt anything quite so hot.

These Buzzards were on one of the hookup posts a few spots from ours. Wonder if they knew something we didn't.

There were a lot of cactus in bloom, and others that were very colorful.

We went on a short hike to an overlook of the Rio Grande river. It was morning and tolerable temperature.

Roadrunners everywhere. BEEP BEEP

The Big Bend NP has a fire department, they were practicing.

Lots of different rock formations.

This one is called Mule Ears.

We don't think pictures do justice to the beauty of the mountains in the park.

A cut in the mountain that the Rio Grande flows through.

Another road thru the park where there was actually some green vegetation.

We found an oasis in this desert National Park. This was at the Big Bend Lodge. They had three different beers on tap from the Big Bend Brewing Co. in Alpine TX.

We drove out of the park on the West side and then drove back into the park. We were glad the AC was working good int the car. Another HOT day.
Our RV park was near the Rio Grande, on our last evening these wild pigs,  came walking out of the woods and across the parking lot.
I think they are called Javolina.
Lots of  Jackrabbits.

I hiked so much that I had a blowout in my 2 year old Teva's

Our anniversary May 9th  out to a movie and dinner. It was 9 years.

Memorial Day at our RV park in Edinburg, TX. They have a tribute court there.

The Court Of Honor is well done.

There was a short ceremony that was put together by Stan, a Korean war Veteran. He asked me to take part in the ceremony. He really did a good job. Likely there was not a dry eye there.

Letters were read that were written by some of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial plaques purchased by residents.  Several of us went to the American Legion post in McAllen TX for their annual Memorial Day picnic. We had a great day.

JUNE 2014 TEXAS

A very un-eventful week. Had a rock chip fixed in the motor home windshield. Good price and he came out to do it $25.

Went to American Legion Post 37 in McAllen Tx. for dinner and dancing. This ia a mural painted on the wall on the bandstand. Live country music. We had fun and a nice dinner.

With the Commander of American Legion Post 37 , McAllen TX. The caommander is on the Left with the white wiskers. He is a very colorful person. We are always welcomed and treated very good at that  Legion Post. We have been there many times and they always remember us.

Another trip to Mexico with our friends here in Texas. All cowboys with borrowed hats. We needed meds for Belinda and Tequila for me.

It was a beautiful day, the weather has been wonderful here.

Progresso is a colorful little border town. Very safe, lots of gringos shop here. It is a crossing where lots of people go to the dentist, shop for their meds and booze.

We had dinner just befroe leaving Mexico. These were people from the Red Cross trying to collect some money. You got a blood pressure test with a donation. Hard to believe 120/78 even with a couple of margaritas and a beer or two.

This addition will be some pictures of what we have been doing for the past couple of weeks. We have been out on So. Padre Island Texas. Having a great time. Above is a picture of  Belinda in front of one of the many t-shirt shops . So. Padre is a beautiful beach, but very tourist friendly. Lots of high rises, beach condos, hotels etc. We enjoy it here, but things are a bit expensive. We have found bargains though, and have had some wonderful times. There are many venues that have live music. Entertainment is excellent.

You can see our motor home in the background. This is the boardwalk to the beach. It is a very short walk to the beach, and we can hear the waves crashing from our site.

Same boardwalk, ocean in the background.

There are two County campgrounds on So. Padre Island, this picture is from the Southern Campground. We are staying in the Northern campground. We rode our bicycles on this trip., It is about 12 Mi. round trip.

Cactus are in bloom everywhere around here.

This is in front of the Tiki Hotel. We have stayed here before. It is one of the originals.

With friends Mike and Linda at Boomarang Billy's. Enjoying some afternoon refreshment and live music, rite on the beach.

Oh Boy!

At South Padre Island Brewing Company  We had a wonderful lunch here as well as a couple of pints.

Had to post this picture. We had a little electrical problem and I was fixing it. This was a heart check. Belinda wasn't being sneaky or anything but when she  took this picture I did not notice her. When the flash went off it scared the shit out of me. Maybe she was checking my heart.

Shrimp boats at Port Isabel Tx.  They are in port because this in not in the season for shrimping yet.

The tourist pirate ship, Port Isabel.

An oil rig ship docked at Pt. Isabel

A trip to Progresso Mexico, for some meds as well as Margaritas.

Friend Jackie horseback riding in Progresso.

These shoes were displayed in a store in Progresso. Belinda thought our friend from El Parque, (Mary) would enjoy these. She is a Brit.

A round of golf at Los Lagos in Edinburg Tx.

We are having a great time.
